Personalised Pens

The best use for personalised pens is to advertise and promote businesses.

When investing in personalised pens to advertise your business there are a few things to consider: what kind of pens do you want, what the pens will look like, how many of the pens you want, and testing to see if the personalised pens you’re using to advertise and promote your business are working to do just that.

There are a few options to choose from when it comes to the kind of personalised pens you can have such as ballpoint pens, gel pens, rollerball pens, etc. The type of pens you choose will depend largely on how much your willing to invest and what your preference is as far as the appearance of the pens.

Obviously when it comes to what will be on the personalised pens you will want your company name, address, and phone number on the pens, and if there is room for the company’s website and email (if it applies to your company) you will want that information on there as well.

But when it comes to the artistic look of the pens, what will you want it to look like?

Again, the artwork on the pen will depend largely on your budget and what you want the personalised pens to look like, but more importantly you want the pens to effectively advertise your business and when it comes to using personalised pens—that’s a function of how the pens look.

For the most part you want the color and the artwork on the pen to match what it is your business is about but at the same time you want it to bring attention to your company’s information that’s on the pen.

However, there is a delicate balance between getting the person’s attention and putting the person off because either the appearance of the pen is too loud, busy, and distracting or too boring and subdued. But the only way to know the direction to go in with the appearance of your personalised pens is to be familiar with your intended audience and to test.

If you own a business chances are you know who your typical customer will be. Are your customers typically old or young, men or women, white collar or blue collar?

Knowing these things about your typical customers will help you to determine what you want the personalised pens you’re going to use to advertise and promote your business to look like. For example, if you’re business has a clientele of mostly older people you’re probably not going to want bright neon colors for your personalised pens nor artwork that would appeal to young people.

Although knowing the profile of your typical customers will help you to more effectively design your promotional personalised pens to promote your business to potential customers who fit the same profile as your typical customers, the best way to know how effective the personalised pens are is to test. What I mean by test is to try out different versions of personalised pens to promote your business.

What you could do is determine the total number of personalised pens you want to invest in to start; the more pens you buy the more accurate the test results will be. And again, the number of pens you buy will be determined by your budget, but you get a better deal when you buy in bulk.

Let’s say that you want to buy 1000 personalised pens to promote your business and you want to test 2 different versions of the personalised pens you want to promote your business, that would be 500 pens for each version of your personalised pens. But you still have to figure out which one is performing better; and neither may work but how will you know if you don’t test.

To test which version works better you will need to have 2 different phone lines, and have 1 phone number on version one of the pen and the 2nd phone number on version two of the pen. And pretty much whatever version of the pen results in the most phone calls to your business should obviously be the one you pick.

However, these 2 different lines should be totally seperate from other phone lines that are advertised in the phone book, classified ads, etc. They need to be 2 lines dedicated to running this test, or how else will you know if you’re getting calls because of version one and two of the personalised pens or some of your other marketing efforts?

But here’s a tip when it comes to distributing the pens: you may want the pens distributed to people who fit your customer profile, at least in the beginning to get the most bang for your buck. Because how effective can a personalised pen that promotes your retirement home business be to a 20-year old.

So you also have to figure out not only how your going to distribute your personalised pens but to whom, at least when you’re first starting out. However, if your pens prove to be highly effective then you may want to start distributing the pens to a wider audience or just distributing them to whoever wants them; but first things first, find out if they’re effective.

It may seem like a lot of work but in reality it’s not and it could keep you from continuing to waste money on something that doesn’t work. Also, keep in mind that it’s just a suggestion and you may have a better way to prove if the personalised pens are effective at advertising and promoting your business.

On the other hand, when purchasing personalised pens to advertise and promote your business don’t think of the pens as just another business expense (although it is) but also as an investment that could generate more customers and business for your business.

Conversely, keep in mind that if the personalised pens are not driving business to your business then it’s just a waste of money so you shouldn’t invest another penny into something that doesn’t work. But how will you know if the personalised pens are working if you’re not keeping track?
